Elements Family Day

About Family Day
During Family Day, children and families engage in brain-healthy play and nature exploration as well as community building activities that promote social and interpersonal awareness.

Activities change with the seasons and children’s interests. During Family Day, children and families may:

engage with the natural environment in various ways such as:

  • gathering various natural materials for use in make believe play or art,

  • building their own obstacle course,

  • looking for worms, roly polys and other bugs to observe and wonder about,

  • listening for birds, watching chipmunks and squirrels, and observing our chickens.

  • playing tag or make believe games with peers in nature,

explore open ended materials set out by the educator, such as:

  • cutting, sorting, exploring the texture of natural materials,

  • arranging gathered nature into abstract art or pictures,

  • exploring dirt, clay, soil, sand, and water with kitchen tools in our "mud kitchen".

  • collaborative, open ended painting,

engage in goal-oriented activities guided by the educator or their parents, such as:

  • planting, weeding, watering or harvesting from the garden,

  • going on a scavenger hunt

  • making flower crowns, bracelets or wands,

Some sessions include a walk around the farm which may include:

  • identifying common flowers, birds, plants, trees, vegetables, etc.

  • visiting and feeding chickens, ducks, and pigs,

  • visiting and petting goats (babies in the spring!),

*A parent or guardian is required to attend. Siblings and up to two adults are welcome.  Family Day is completely outdoors and will be canceled in the event of heavy rain or extreme weather. Classes will be held in light rain.
